MAVO officials are the best trained officials in Maine

Our officials MUST be the best trained because:

Nearly every assignment at the high school level includes a JV and Varsity doubleheader. Your first assignment will include a Varsity match and we have to make sure you're prepared and up for the task.

Classroom instruction

By the end of July each Summer, our new officials have had the opportunity to attend weekly training sessions to learn the art of volleyball officiating and the rule book cover-to-cover.

IF you are new to the sport of volleyball, and/or sports officiating in general, it is HIGHLY recommended that you take advantage of ALL of the training opportunities MAVO offers in order that you are able to begin the season with a competent level of proficiency, and an understanding of the rules and mechanics of the job.

Practical experience

New MAVO officials also have the opportunity to work and have on-court instruction from some of our most experienced officials. You'll receive plenty of practical experience during the preseason with lots of time on the court and on the official's stand before your first season ever begins.
