When the high school and collegiate volleyball seasons are over many MAVO members extend their officiating duties through the following April, and into May, by working a wide variety of tournaments hosted by the United States Volleyball Association (the national governing body for the sport of volleyball).
On the youth volleyball side, this is often referred to as Junior Olympic (JO) volleyball. There are opportunities to work Saturday and Sunday tournaments throughout Maine and all of New England.
USAV officials are hired for the day, and can work a large number of matches throughout one-day, two-day, or three-day tournaments.
The daily fee for officiating often includes a free hotel room for overnight accommodations for officials.
Some of these tournaments also offer advanced training clinics, and additional certifications for advancement.
